AKRON, Ohio (July 19)—Myers Industries Inc.´s net income tumbled 61 percent to $3.2 million in the second quarter from $8 million in the 2000 period. Sales fell 8 percent to $152.7 million from $166.2 million the previous year. Net income fell 32 percent to $11.1 million from $16.3 million during the first six months of the year while sales slipped 3 percent to about $318 million from $327.8 million a year ago. The decline in the U.S. economy, European economic issues and the slump of the automotive, recreational vehicle and truck sectors all played a role in the Myers Industries´ slump, the company said.
