LINWOOD, Pa. (July 10)—Foamex International Inc., a leading manufacturer of flexible polyurethane and advanced polymer foam products, has agreed to acquire certain assets of General Foam Corp., a Paramus, N.J.-based manufacturer of PU foam products for the automotive, industrial and home furnishings markets. Terms of the deal were not released; GFC had sales of nearly $100 million last year. "Foamex has grown historically through acquisition," Foamex Chairman Marshall C. Cogan said in a prepared statement. Strategic acquisitions continue to be an important component of the firm's growth, he said. The transaction, which is subject to approval by Foamex´s lenders and certain other conditions, is expected to close by the end of July. Foamex makes cushioning for bedding, furniture, carpet cushion and automotive markets. It reported sales of $1.3 billion last year.
