LOS ANGELES (June 22)—Rubber Technology International Inc. has formed an alliance with Western Rubber Products Ltd. under which RTI has leased new proprietary tire-recycling equipment and technology from Western to increase manufacturing efficiency. Western, based in British Columbia, Canada, has been in the recycling and crumb rubber business for 12 years, recycling about 90 percent of all waste tires generated in the province, the company said. Throughout its span of operation, Western has developed technologies and procedures which bolster the production and quality of recycled end-products. RTI's new equipment, furnished by Western, increases the Los Angeles-based tire recycler's production efficiency, more quickly reducing scrap materials to an optimum size for processing and thus opening up new markets, said RTI President Trevor Webb.
