MIDLAND, Mich. (May 29)—Dow Chemical Co.'s Emulsion Polymers business has upgraded its pilot coater facilities with the purchase of an on-line, two-nip, hot soft-nip calender. The new machine, along with new on-line paper measurement capabilities, is expected to result in innovations, increasing paper quality and printability, the company said. Dow Chemical, a leading supplier of latex products and services to the paper and paperboard markets, can simulate mill-like conditions at the pilot coating facility and give customers the chance to test products using the latest latex coating and finishing technology. The new calender allows the company to develop latexes for paper coatings and helps customers minimize the risk of buying new equipment by first testing runnability prior to start-up, it said.
