LONDON (May 15)—Bando Chemical Industries Ltd. has agreed to pay $41 million to Gates Rubber Co. to settle a copyright infringement lawsuit between the firms, Gates parent Tomkins P.L.C. confirmed. The agreement settles a dispute dating back to 1992 when Gates Rubber sued Bando Chemical's U.S. subsidiary for breach of copyright covering industrial-belt design software. The deal follows a February ruling in U.S. court supporting of a compromise settlement by Bando Chemical, which Gates Rubber previously had rejected.
