FAIRLAWN, Ohio (April 24)-–Kumho Tire U.S.A. Inc. opened a 20,400-sq.-ft. technical center April 23 in Fairlawn, a suburb of Akron. The $2 million center demonstrates the South Korean tire maker's commitment to having a technical and market presence in North America, the firm said. Managing Director Guy Edington said the company expects to expand the operation in the next three years for additional tire testing and office space, and will increase the staff to 45 from 22. The company marked the event with a ribbon-cutting and opening ceremony for local officials and corporate dignitaries, including Hyung In Shin, president of parent firm Kumho Industrial Co. Inc., and Kyo S. Cho, president of Kumho Tire U.S.A. Shin later gave the keynote address at the Tire Society meeting April 24 in Akron.
