PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 23)—The ACS Rubber Division posted an operating loss of $464,803 for 2000, but Treasurer Kurt Nygaard of Harwick Standard Distribution Co. said the financial position of the organization is improving. Over the two-year period of 1999-2000, which included the 1999 Rubber Expo, the division showed a surplus of almost $100,000. Nygaard—speaking at a committee chairmen's meeting this morning during the spring meeting in Providence—said that the loss for 2000 had been projected to exceed $600,000, and cost-cutting procedures are starting to work. Also at the meeting, Gary Horning of Polymer Valley Chemicals Inc. reported division membership has slipped about 500 from a year ago to 2,656.
