SYRACUSE, N.Y. (April 18)—Carlisle Cos. Inc. reported a net loss of $10.2 million on sales of $463.2 million for the first quarter ended March 31. The loss includes a $24 million after-tax restructuring charge recorded during the period. Factoring out the charge, net earnings for the quarter were $13.9 million, down from the $25.5 million reported in last year's first quarter. Earnings were down because of declining demand, aggressive pricing, and increased production costs. Sales were up 7 percent over the $434 million posted in the first quarter of 2000.
