MEXICO CITY (April 9)—Goodyear Mexico has closed its tire manufacturing plant in Tultitlan, Mexico, citing the hardship of high costs amid an economic downturn in the country. A Goodyear spokesman said the company had made "intense efforts and significant investments" to improve productivity at the site in recent years, but was unable to correct the situation. Initiatives to relocate some of the 1,559 employess affected—all of whom will receive severance pay—are under way, he said.
