FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (March 29)—GDX Automotive will shutter its Marion, Ind., sealing plant over the next year, following losses of more than $15 million over the past three years because of quality and delivery problems and, more recently, the loss of major business contracts, the company said. The GDX facility in Marion produces sealing for Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp. and Mercedes-Benz A.G. and employs about 600 people represented by the United Steelworkers of America. GDX parent GenCorp Inc. said it will take a restructuring charge of $14 million to $18 million in the second quarter to close the Marion factory and a vibration control and rubber molded products plant in Ballina, Ireland, as announced in February.
