AKRON, Ohio (March 29)—Goodyear Chairman and CEO Samir G. Gibara has been elected a director of Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. in conjunction with Goodyear´s 10 percent ownership of Sumitomo Rubber. Goodyear bought its stake in Sumitomo Rubber as part of the firms´ global alliance that took effect in September 1999. Goodyear is the second-largest shareholder in Kobe, Japan-based Sumitomo Rubber, which in turn holds 1.4 percent of Goodyear´s common stock, Goodyear said. Gibara, 61, has been chairman and CEO of Goodyear since 1996.
