NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 28)—Pirelli Tire North America will build the first U.S. tire plant based on the Modular Integrated Robotized System process in Rome, Ga., a spokesman for the company confirmed. No details on size, capacity, investment or expected completion date are yet available. Italian parent S.p.A. operates a MIRS factory in Milan, Italy, and also plans to add the new tire manufacturing system at plants in Breuberg, Germany and Burton-on-Trent, England. Pirelli closed its last U.S. tire plant in Hanford, Calif., in January.
