FAIRLAWN, Ohio (March 20)—Omnova Solutions Inc.´s Performance Chemicals segment will begin shuttering its Greensboro, N.C., production facility and reduce its work force by about 100 positions during its second quarter. The moves, announced along with the Fairlawn-based company´s March 14 first-quarter earnings, are being made to cut operating costs and improve the segment´s financial performance, the firm said. The closing of the Greensboro plant, which produces chemical adhesives, softeners, resins and additives for the textile and graphics arts industries, will begin this quarter and continue through the end of 2001. The 100 jobs being cut company-wide include those in Greensboro. The positions will be eliminated via firings and a voluntary retirement program, Omnova said. The firm employs about 2,500 globally.
