OSAKA, Japan (March 6)—Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd.´s net earnings for fiscal 2000 rose 8.3 percent to $46 million, while net sales dropped 16.9 percent to $3.65 billion, reflecting the sale of the company´s European and North American tire operations to Goodyear in September 1999. Net sales for Sumitomo´s Japan-based operations rose 36 percent to $3.37 billion, the company´s consolidated results statement shows. Operating profits at Sumitomo´s tire business reached $200.6 million, compared with $31 million for its sports equipment division, and an operating loss of $12.5 million for its industrial products division.
