WATSONVILLE, Calif. (Feb. 23)—A California agency has awarded a $21.9 million contract to Granite Construction Co. to resurface a road using mostly rubberized asphalt. The California Department of Transportation contract calls for the company to use 147,800 tons of material made from recycled scrap tires, as well as open grade asphalt and shoulder material. The company will work on a 12.3-mile stretch of I-880 near Oakland, Calif.
