TROY, Mich. (Feb. 12)—Delphi Automotive Systems Corp. said it will temporarily lay off 3,693 hourly workers, or 7 percent of its U.S. hourly work force, for the week of Feb. 12 in response to vehicle production cutbacks. The total number includes 108 employees at Delphi´s Dayton, Ohio, area plants. Delphi said the layoffs, which will last at least a week, also will affect workers at its factories in Michigan and New York. Like other auto parts makers, Delphi has been adjusting its work force on a week-by-week basis to auto maker production schedules.
