NATCHEZ, Miss. (Feb. 12)—Titan International Inc.´s farm and industrial tire plant in Natchez will be reduced to a mixing facility during the next two to three months, causing an undetermined number of layoffs in the short term. Titan will stop tire production temporarily because of the expected recession this year, said President and CEO Maurice Taylor Jr. Natchez was chosen among the company´s three tire facilities because it is older than the Brownsville, Texas, factory and has less capacity than the Des Moines, Iowa, plant. If or when the economic situation improves for Titan´s markets, the company could bring tire making back to Natchez, Taylor said.
