SALT LAKE CITY (Feb. 6)—Huntsman Corp. has agreed to purchase Dow Chemicals Co.´s ethyleneamines business—materials used in a variety of applications including polyols and urethane catalysts for polyurethane production—for an undisclosed amount. Under terms of the agreement, Huntsman will acquire a manufacturing plant in Freeport, Texas, with a nameplate capacity of 72,500 metric tons per year. It also will have a long-term option to purchase 13,600 tons of ethyleneamines per year from Dow´s Terneuzen, Netherlands, facility. "This acquisition is an ideal complement to our existing amines business and increases our production capacity to approximately 900 million pounds per year. The purchase also enhances our global polyurethanes position by giving us another component in polyol and urethane catalyst production," President and CEO Peter Huntsman said.
