NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 5)—Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. is making production adjustments at its Decatur, Ill., and Bloomington, Ill., plants, resulting in 21 temporary layoffs. The tire maker´s Decatur facility took one day out of its production week, reducing work to six days a week. The Bloomington plant reduced off-the-road tire production Feb. 1 because of excess inventory. The move puts 21 employees on temporary layoffs. The company also suspended bias tire building at the facility each Sunday for a maximum of 20 weeks beginning Feb. 4, affecting about 400 additional employees, who will lose one 12-hour shift every two weeks.
