WOLVERHAMPTON, England (Jan. 31)—Goodyear, after halting some planned job cuts at its Wolverhampton tire plant pending discussion with trade unions, has decided to continue with its 500-person staff reduction. The company announced on Jan. 15 it would axe 215 employees, and now will cut the jobs of another 240 out of the previous staff level of 3,200. Goodyear said the discussions with the unions did not result in viable alternatives.
