NORCROSS, Ga. (Jan. 30)—Regent Medical Americas has unveiled a thinner Biogel surgical glove with a smooth surface for microsurgical procedures. The glove is the first of possibly several products expected to debut in 2001 from the glove-making arm of Norcross-headquartered SSL Americas Inc. The planned innovations are part of a capital investment plan that includes pumping $14 million into the company´s Malaysian manufacturing operations. Formulated to be 20 percent thinner than the standard Biogel surgical glove, the new product, called Biogel Super-Sensitive, is manufactured on a curved form design for more natural hand position. The glove is being manufactured at the firm´s recently expanded glove factory in Kulim, Malaysia, where the firm added two dip lines, purchased two machines, improved the capabilities of several pieces of equipment and replaced packaging units.
