FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Jan. 11)—A Tire Retread Information Bureau complaint about a news report unfavorable to retreads has made a Fort Wayne television station reconsider its stand. The report late last year by WANE-TV was "the single most damaging attack against retreading I have ever seen," TRIB Managing Director Harvey Brodsky said in a Dec. 14 memo. The reporter who worked on the story agreed to visit Isaac Tire Inc. in Fort Wayne Dec. 28, with Brodsky, Isaac Tire co-owner Rick Slabaugh and Don Schauer of Bandag Inc. in attendance. "It went very, very well," Brodsky said afterward. "The reporter told me, `This is the first time I didn´t do my homework. I should have checked if there were retreading plants in Fort Wayne.´ " The revised story should run as a special report in February, Brodsky said.
