EVERBERG, Belgium (Jan. 3)—Huntsman Corp. and Bain Capital Ltd. will purchase the European surfactants business of Albright & Wilson from its parent, Rhodia S.A. The deal is expected to close April 30. The acquisition includes seven manufacturing sites, employing about 1,000 workers, in the United Kingdom, Italy, France and Spain. Huntsman and Rhodia will jointly operate and manage one of the plants, located in Whitehaven, England. The European business manufactures, develops and markets a wide range of surfactants and surfactant intermediates used primarily in detergents, toiletries, baby shampoos and personal care products. It also produces surfactants and specialty products for industrial use.
