HOUSTON (Dec. 13)—Members of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 347 approved a three-year contract today, ending a 64-day strike at Goodyear´s chemical plant in Houston. Union officials said members will begin returning to work Thursday morning. Jobs to be outsourced or consolidated will be phased out immediately and be completed as remaining employees retire, resign or exit via other forms of attrition. Wage reductions for designated non-core positions will be implemented during the first year of the contract, giving employees an opportunity to bid for core jobs. The contract provides improvements to the pension program and a first-year lump sum wage increase with boosts in the second and third year dependent on the plant´s level of earnings.
