DETROIT (Dec. 1)—In response to vehicle production slowdowns, Delphi Automotive said it will temporarily lay off 1,700 hourly workers, or 3 percent of its work force, primarily at steering, wire harnessing and heat, ventilation and air conditioning component plants in Michigan, Ohio and New York. Only a handful of Delphi Chassi employees, about six, will be affected, a spokesman for the company said. The length of the layoffs will depend on auto makers´ production schedules, Delphi said in a written release.
