CHESHIRE, England (Nov. 29)—SSL International P.L.C. has purchased a plant in Kuala Ketil, Malaysia, near its recently expanded glove-making Kulim, Malaysia, factory to upgrade its sterilization operations. The building, acquired for an undisclosed amount, will be converted into a clean room and sterile packaging facility, an SSL spokeswoman said, which should result in greater efficiency in both areas. She did not say when the conversion would be completed. The acquisition is part of a major investment plan SSL and its glove manufacturing arm, Norcross, Ga.-based Regent Medical Americas, implemented in Malaysia earlier this year. It includes expanding and enhancing its Kulim surgical glove factory and core products, adding new equipment and two dip lines, upgrading other machinery, increasing storage capacity and replacing packaging equipment.
