WASHINGTON (Nov. 28)—Total Canadian replacement tire shipments in October increased less than 1 percent to 2.38 million units from 2.37 million in October 1999, according to data gathered by the Rubber Association of Canada. Year-to-date numbers were similar, with the total inching ahead to 15.4 million units from 15.3 million. The passenger category increased 1.3 percent to 1.98 million units for the month, while year-to-date numbers saw less than 1 percent growth to 12.2 million units. Truck/bus numbers dipped 5.6 percent to 394,669 units in October and year-to-date figures also decreased slightly to 3.21 million units. The inner tube category plummeted 62.9 percent to 23,047 tubes, while year-to-date numbers dropped 12.9 percent to 649,329 units.
