AKRON (Nov. 24)—Goodyear acknowledged it has received notice that its Load Range E light commercial tires are the subject of an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In a statement, the company said three separate teams of Goodyear engineers spent nearly two years looking into the tires after a pattern of tread separation came to light in 1995. "After testing and retesting every possible scenario, they found nothing wrong with Load Range E tires," the company said. NHTSA began the preliminary investigation after receiving reports that 15 people have died and 129 were injured in accidents related to the tires.
