SALABERRY-DE-VALLEYFIELD, Quebec (Nov. 21)—Members of United Steelworkers Local 919, already on strike for six months, rejected a five-year contract proposal from Goodyear Nov. 15. About 85 percent of the 76-member local, mainly office and technical workers at the company´s Valleyfield passenger radial tire plant, said no to the offer Nov. 15, mostly because of unacceptable wage and job security issues, said Daniel Mallette, Local 919 vice president. The strike began April 27. A company spokesman said Goodyear was "disappointed the union didn´t see fit to agree" with its proposal, but otherwise wouldn´t comment on the offer´s rejection.
