HANFORD, Calif.—Talks have begun between the United Steelworkers of America and Pirelli Tire North America to try to save the company´s Hanford tire plant and the 650 jobs there. Discussions between the New Haven, Conn.-based tire maker and USWA Local 703 commenced Nov. 6 and have continued since then, but no substantial progress has been made, said Barney Huyck, the local´s financial secretary.
