AKRON (Nov. 14)—Workers staffing organized Goodyear, Kelly-Springfield and Dunlop tire and rubber plants overwhelmingly ratified mid-term contract changes, locking in wage and benefit increases for more than 20,000 employees at 14 locations. The master pact covering about 12,000 United Steelworkers at nine Goodyear facilities was approved by about a 3½-to-1 margin, a USWA spokesman said. Individual contract adjustments at three Kelly tire plants employing about 5,700 USWA members and two Dunlop tire factories with about 2,600 union workers were approved as well. Improvements in the contracts include raises in wage, pension and early retirement supplements, following the pattern set by the Bridgestone/Firestone pacts attained earlier this fall.
