LAS VEGAS (Nov. 9)—P.T. Mega Safe Tyre Industry is expanding its radial tire factory in Indonesia and setting the stage for eventually selling tires in the U.S. Mega is in the early part of the expansion project that eventually could more than quadruple capacity at the 3-year-old radial facility, according to Felix Denanta, Mega Tyre business development director. He talked about the expansion at the International Tire Expo, held Oct. 31-Nov. 3 in Las Vegas. PT Mega Rubber Factory opened the Mega Safe radial plant in Salatiga, Indonesia, in 1997 and manufactures between 800,000 and 1 million passenger and light truck radials a year at the factory. But if the company follows through on all phases of the project, annual capacity could double to 1.5 million units by the end of 2001, and increase to about 4 million tires after five years, Denanta said. Then the company could look to branch out its exports to include North and South America.
