NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 18)—John Lampe, Bridgestone/Firestone Inc.´s new chairman and CEO, made his first move at reorganizing the company today by consolidating the firm´s tire operations into four operating units. The move is designed to speed decision-making and increase the accountability of senior managers and ensure greater consistency in operating procedures, Lampe said. The four tire operating units include U.S. Commercial Tire, bringing together the truck, agriculture, off-the-road tires, and tube operations into a single unit; U.S. Consumer Tire, consolidating the consumer tire sales, original equipment sales, retail operations and credit card businesses; International Tire Operations, intended to maximize coordination across the company´s Americas´ businesses; and Manufacturing and Technology operations, covering all research, technology and manufacturing operations.
