WASHINGTON (Oct. 17)—The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration now has reports of 119 deaths, more than 500 injuries and more than 3,500 complaints connected with the 6.5 million Firestone ATX and Wilderness AT tires Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. has recalled. The agency updated its complaint figures on the tires the same day plaintiffs´ attorneys argued before the Judicial Panel on Multi-District Litigation in Washington that it should approve a Firestone class action. If granted, the order for the class action would combine more than 200 Firestone ATX and Wilderness product liability cases which have been filed to date.
