HANFORD, Calif. (Oct. 6)—Pirelli Tire North America Inc. has made "tentative plans" to close its passenger and light truck tire plant in Hanford because the firm does not feel it´s economically feasible to continue to operation. The company informed employees and union officials of the decision Oct. 5—issuing the required six-month notice that day—but said it will continue to work with the union in exploring ways in which Pirelli´s lone U.S. plant could stay open, according to a Pirelli spokesman. The plant employs 650 and plans to continue its current production of 9,500 passenger and light truck tire units a day, the spokesman said.
