DETROIT (Sept. 29)—Ford Motor Co. said it believes the replacement of all recalled Firestone P-metric light truck tires on its Explorer sport-utility vehicles will be completed by the end of November. In its latest ad to consumers, Ford said more than 3.2 million tires—or 49 percent of the 6.5 million recalled—have been replaced, thanks in part to increased production by Goodyear, Michelin North America Inc. and other manufacturers. Ford now has approved 14 different tire brands and lines as replacements for the Firestone Wildnerness AT, ATX or ATX II tires being recalled. Among the replacements are BFGoodrich, Bridgestone, Continental, General Tire, Goodyear, Hankook, Michelin and Uniroyal lines.
