PITTSBURGH (Sept. 28)—PPG Industries Inc. has invested more than $7 million to expand its four amorphous silica operations in the Far East. The largest expansion is at PPG Industries Taiwan in Sanyi, Taiwan, where the company raised annual capacity to more than 30,000 metric tons to meet growing demand for precipitated silicas used in tire and silicone rubber applications. Other plants affected are PPG-Siam Silica Co. of Rayong, Thailand; Lianji Chemicals Industry Co. of Lianyungang, China; and PPG Nanchang Co. of Nanchang, China.
