LAKELAND, Fla. (Sept. 28)—Breed Technologies Inc., a global leader in the production of automotive safety systems, has named John Riess CEO, replacing Johnnie Cordell Breed, company co-founder and wife of the late Allen Breed. Breed has been in bankruptcy since September 1999, during which time former Kingston-Warren parent Harvard Industries Inc. had been attempting to purchase them. Riess was chairman and CEO of Gates Rubber Co. from 1997 until February 1999 when he resigned. Under Riess´ direction, Breed will attempt to restructure itself to emerge from Chapter 11 before the end of the year.
