FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (Sept. 27)—Michelin North America and TRW Inc. have signed a technical coopersation agreement to develop and market tire pressure monitoring deveices for the passenger care and light truck industries. The deal outlines the development of a standardized system that would monitor tire pressure and temperature and other data to determine—and warn drivers of—unsafe tire inflation conditions. Initially, the arrangement calls for the integration of TRW´s TireWatch radio-frequency-based onboard transmitter sensor and Michelin´s Pax system and logic software. The firms will work together to subsequently create a next-generation transmitter for application on the Pax system as well as on conventional tires, the firms announced.
