AKRON (Sept. 14)—Nakata Engineering Co. Ltd. and Wyko Inc. Engineering have formed an alliance to expand each firm´s customer and product bases. Under the pact, Dudley, United Kingdom-based Wyko will sell and service Nakata´s equipment in the U.S., Canada, Central and South America, Europe and Africa. Nakata, headquartered in Kobe, Japan, will represent Wyko in Japan, China and Taiwan. Nakata has been looking to expand its base for some time, P. David Jones, an international business consultant for both companies, said at the International Tire Exhibition and Conference, held Sept. 12-14 in Akron. Nakata makes a full range of equipment, including multiflex and cold-feed extruders; pin, vent and multiplex extruders; mixers; mills; extruder heads; roller-die and roller-head units; calenders; tire building machines; cutters; and universal inner tube splicers for a variety of tires. Wyko has been designing and manufacturing tooling for tire makers—including drums, press loaders, band appliers and transfer rings—for more than 30 years, Managing Director Michael J.
