WASHINGTON (Sept. 14)—Ford Motor Co. is investigating possible problems with Continental Contritrac AS MXS radials, size P245/75R16, because of four reports of tread separations from Saudi Arabia, a Ford spokesman said. Ford is studying two of the tires that were original equipment on a Lincoln Navigator in Saudi Arabia. The original "USA Today" story on the investigation "may have left a wrong impression about the safety of tires that Continental provides for the Lincoln Navigator," according to a prepared statement by Continental General Tire Inc. Conti has no reports of rollovers or other serious accidents from this OE fitment, despite supplying nearly 700,000 tires for Navigators, the company said.
