AKRON (Aug. 24)—RubberNetwork.com, the embryonic web site for six tire and rubber companies, has taken another step toward starting up by the end of the year. The six member companies of the global electronic purchasing and procurement marketplace for the tire and rubber industry have signed a memorandum of understanding, according to a statement provided by Goodyear, one of the founding members. Besides procurement services, RubberNetwork will offer software and services focusing on operations optimization and logistic improvement across the entire value chain for each company, the statement said. The other partners are Continental A.G., Cooper Tire & Rubber Co., Groupe Michelin, Pirelli S.p.A. and Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd.
