GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Aug 23)—Vi-Chem Corp. has received approval for its Styrene thermoplastics elastomer sealing system to the upgraded General Motors Corp. specification system for such materials, Vi-Chem announced. The styrene block copolymer-based compounds allow more ocst-effective, superior-performing sealing systeme parts than the currently used EPDM rubber, Vi-Chem said, and offers a solution to the auto industry´s search for a replacement material that would provide satisfactory durability. Features of Sevrene include high weatherability, processibility with various other products, recyclability, colorability, and cold-temperature flexibility down to -60°C, said Vi-Chem, a manufacturer of vinyl compounds and TPE elastomers for the automotive, office furniture and building and construction industries.
