WASHINGTON (Aug. 21)—Ford Motor Co. and Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. haven´t yet decided what to do with the 6.5 million 15-inch Firestone ATX, ATX II and Wilderness AT tires which currently are being recalled, according to a Ford spokeswoman. "We are looking at a range of possibilities to reduce the likelihood that those tires will be an incremental burden on the landfills," she said during a Ford media conference call. While the primary imperative is to speed the recall and assuage customer fears, the spokeswoman said, what to do with the recalled tires "is something we´re looking at, and we´ll have more to say about that as the recall progresses." Bridgestone/Firestone could not be reached immediately for comment.
