LA PORTE, Texas (Aug. 8)—Dow Polyurethanes, a business of The Dow Chemical Co., announced plans to increase production of polymeric methylene diphenyl diisocyanate by building a new production plant in the U.S. Gulf Coast region and by updating its current MDI facility in La Porte. The planned expansions will increase production by 550 million poundsÃ500 million for the new facility and 50 million for the La Porte upgradeÃand is scheduled to be completed by 2004, the company said. Dow projects that demand for MDI will exceed supply in 2004 and timed its expansion for that reason, the company said.
