ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. (Aug. 3)—Patch Rubber Co. has purchased a new extruder capable of producing thick sheets of rubber without the need to stack and laminate multiple layers in order to meet customer needs. The pin-barrel roller-head extruder emits rubber in 1-inch thick by 48-inch wide single-ply sheets, eliminating the chance of delamination cause by the stack-and-laminate process. The rubber produced from this machine can withstand harsh environments longer and is more resistant to abrasion, erosion and corrosion than products currently available, the company said.
