TROY, Mich. (July 31)—Collins & Aikman Corp.´s sales for the second quarter ended July 1 increased four percent to $507.2 million, producing net income of $17.7 million, $11.1 million from continuing operations and $6.6 million from discontinued operations. That compares with revenue of $486.8 million and earnings of $5.3 millionÃwhich included a pretax restructuring charge of $4.6 millionÃduring the same quarter of 1999. For the six-month period, the automotive flooring, acoustics systems and fabric, interior trim and convertible top supplier posted net income of $24.7 million on sales of $1.04 billion, compared to a loss of $1.2 million on sales of $965 million during the first half of 1999.
