BROWNSVILLE, Texas (July 19)—Between 20 and 29 workers at Titan International Inc.´s Brownsville tire facility were laid off beginning July 14, reducing production employment to about 202. Russell Ash, operations manager at the plant, said the soft agricultural economy and drought in major farming areas were the main factors. Titan CEO and President Maurice Taylor Jr. added that the plant recently had hired too many workers before they were needed in the expanding facility. The employees will be recalled as Titan adds equipment and increases production, Ash said.
