TOKYO (July 14)—Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd., already a partner in the global alliance that helped make Goodyear the world´s largest tire maker last year, will join the Akron tire maker and Groupe Michelin in the companies´ new run-flat tire joint venture. The Japanese tire firm said it will contribute some of its technologies to the venture, which was announced June 23. The tire companies are seeking to establish a standard run-flat tire system that will be accepted by auto makers, using Michelin´s Pax technology as a basis.
