BEDFORD, Va. (June 30)—United Steelworkers on strike for nine months at Rubatex Corp.´s Bedford foam rubber plant have been back on the job since June 19, 10 days after the union made an unconditional offer to return. The plant has about 375 workers in the plant, more than double the replacement work force that was hired during the strike. About 60 of the 411 members of USWA Local 240 who struck Sept. 12 opted to quit or retire. The company and union are looking at mid-July dates to resume contract negotiations.
